Fermanagh is one third water. Upper and Lower Lough Erne stretch 80 kilometres through the county, fringed with islands (some inhabited, most not), crannog remains, and forestry car parks where you will not see another van. Marble Arch Caves is a UNESCO Global Geopark. Enniskillen is a proper market town with actual supermarkets. This is the sleeper van life county of Northern Ireland.
Fermanagh's spots are genuinely among the quietest in Ireland. Lough shore pull-offs and forest parks are the main options — tolerance is consistently green outside the midsummer boating season. Filter the full spots list by Fermanagh →
Lough Erne shore. Formal caravan/camper site plus informal areas. Excellent base.
County border village. River and lake access. Year-round very quiet.
Boardwalk start area. Remote. No facilities but total isolation.
Lough road pull-offs near Kesh. Fishermen territory. Zero pressure.
The Lough Erne loop is the definitive Fermanagh drive. Marble Arch and the Cavan border add two excellent detours that most van lifers skip entirely.
Enniskillen → A46 north along Lower Lough Erne → Belleek (Belleek Pottery worth visiting) → Ballyshannon (cross into Donegal or loop back) → A35 south along the west shore → Derrygonnelly → back to Enniskillen. Allow a full day.
West of Enniskillen near Florencecourt — book cave tours ahead. The geopark visitor centre is free. The walk above the cave system, through the Cuilcagh boardwalk (Stairway to Heaven), takes 3–4 hours.
Via Belcoo and Blacklion across spectacular drumlin country. The border crossings in this area are unmarked single-track roads through farmland — utterly quiet. Blacklion village (Cavan side) has a good stop.
Enniskillen Lakeland Forum leisure centre is the main option — day passes available. The Forum is well-equipped and central to the town.
Water and waste disposal in Enniskillen town. Castle Archdale Country Park has full camper facilities including hook-up and chemical waste disposal.
The Hollow Bar in Enniskillen for local atmosphere. Franco's Restaurant for a more formal option. Belleek village has a good cafe attached to the pottery visitor centre.
Enniskillen has full supermarket coverage — stock up here before heading out to the lough shores. Smaller villages around the lough have limited supplies.
Quiet beyond belief. Lough Erne in mist is atmospheric rather than depressing. Roads fine unless deep frost. Green tolerance everywhere.
Best start to the season. Caves and forest parks fully open. Fishing season begins. Light extends well. The sweet spot before any summer rise.
Modest increase around the lough (boaters arrive). Everything else stays quiet. One of the only Irish counties that stays genuinely low-pressure all summer.
Fishing continues into October. Autumn reflections on Lough Erne are world-class photography territory. Completely empty from late September.
Fermanagh is the hidden gem of Northern Ireland van life — but the coast, the mountains, and the city are all within easy reach.
