The Burren is one of the most unusual landscapes in Europe — limestone pavement, wildflowers in the cracks, no crowds once you get off the Cliffs of Moher car park. Loop Head is Clare's secret: a quiet peninsula with Green tolerance and a lighthouse at the edge of the world.
Clare's best spots reward drivers who go past Moher. Loop Head especially — most people don't bother with the extra 40 km, which means you get it to yourself. Filter all spots by Clare →
Burren coast. Small village with pub and shop. Occasional Garda patrols in summer. Superb walking into the Burren behind.

East Clare lakeshore near Mountshannon. Anglers and sailors use this area — van lifers fit right in.
Enters Clare at Kilkee and exits near Kinvara. The Loop Head peninsula is a worthwhile 80 km detour south of Kilkee before heading north to the Cliffs. Allow two days for the county alone.
Ballyvaughan → Fanore → Lisdoonvarna → Doolin. Limestone pavement, turloughs, and medieval ring forts. The road between Ballyvaughan and Fanore along the coast is particularly good. Avoid the N67 Cliffs car park on summer weekends.
Kilkee → Carrigaholt → Loop Head. 40 km out and back. Quiet, flat, Atlantic-facing. The coastal loop around Kilkee town itself has dramatic cliff swimming spots.
Ennis has all brands. Ennistymon and Kilkee have smaller options. Stock up in Ennis before the Loop Head or Burren — nothing west of Ennistymon is reliable for gas.
Ennis leisure centre has a day pass. Doolin has a tap at the pier used by visiting campers. Lisdoonvarna has a petrol station that will help.
Ennis bring centre. Kilkee has a small bring centre. Chemical toilet disposal: Burren Glamping near Ballyvaughan has a dump point.
Doolin is the trad music capital — Gus O'Connor's and McDermott's are the famous ones. Kilkee has good pub music. Kilmihil is less visited but excellent for authentic sessions.
Quiet, wild, cold. The Burren wildflowers start in March — earlier than anywhere else in Ireland due to the limestone's warmth. Loop Head is yours.
Best window. Wildflowers peak in May. Cliffs of Moher before the summer rush. Doolin trad scene alive but not overwhelmed.
Cliffs car park chaos. Doolin overrun. The Burren is fine. Loop Head is heaven. Avoid N67 on summer weekends at all costs.
Crowds drop sharply. The coast road to Fanore in autumn light is exceptional. Great festival season in Ennis and Kilkee.
